I have been hard at work raising my fitness levels as quickly as possible for the fast approaching Sani2C three day stage race. Only two weeks to go! I am by no means a fast or very skilled MTB’er but I do aim to finish each day.
I was advised to enter Honda Mountain Trophy two day stage race to get a feel for multi-day…well for me it was my first multi-day event and the longest distance (75km) ridden in a day and (as it turned out) the most technical route I have ridden. It seems rocks and I have a “love hate” relationship … thankfully the training at Thaba Trails has helped immensely with rocks and climbing, but I managed to fall three times on day 1.
Day 2 was much faster and shorter (45km), the route being mostly sections in reverse of the previous day, this helps for a newbie like me as I have seen the track before. Thankfully no falling on Day 2!
I was the second last lady in for the Trophy and overall I was about fifth last, I have been told many times “Last is better than a DNF”.
Overall I can say it was a very nice route … I can’t wait to be fitter and more technically able so that I can enjoy the views more and take photos from the tops of the mountains!
